Jenny & Martin Hansen

Co founders of Gold Star Preschool

Gold Star Teacher 2025 to 2026Over a decade of international and U.S. teaching experienceUNI business & marketing expertise

The name Gold Star Preschool was inspired by educator Jenny Hansen’s recognition as a Gold Star Teacher in Black Hawk County. Its vision was formed through more than a decade of professional teaching, curriculum design, international classroom experience, and dedicated service to children with diverse strengths and learning needs.

Her husband and cofounder, Martin Hansen, a University of Northern Iowa professor in business and marketing, contributes the strategic leadership, organizational expertise, and financial stewardship required to transform this educational vision into a thoughtful, responsible, and sustainable preschool model.

“What if we prepared the brain for learning before continually asking the child to perform?”

That question continues to guide the Brain Ready Method™.

Founder · Educational Director · Creator of the Brain Ready Method™

Jenny Hansen

Jenny Hansen brings over a decade of richly varied teaching experience spanning international and American classrooms. With a master’s degree in Special Education and extensive knowledge of child psychology and development, she has devoted her career to understanding how children think, communicate, regulate emotions, build relationships, and learn.

Throughout her career, Jenny has designed meaningful learning experiences, shared her expertise with fellow educators, listened closely to families, and built lasting connections grounded in trust and commitment. Her work in multicultural classrooms strengthened her understanding that excellent education must respond thoughtfully to each child’s development, identity, abilities, emotional needs, and individual way of learning.

During her career in Singapore, Jenny served with PCF Sparkletots, Singapore’s largest preschool operator, where she received a Service Excellence Award. Her work in the United States further deepened her expertise in inclusive education, individualized instruction, emotional regulation, sensory responsive practices, and family collaboration. In 2025 to 2026, she was recognized as a Gold Star Teacher in Black Hawk County. This honor inspired the name Gold Star Preschool.

From these experiences, one guiding principle emerged: children learn best when they feel safe, connected, respected, and understood, with the predictability and sensory support they need to participate confidently. This principle became the heart of Gold Star Preschool and the foundation of the Brain Ready Method™.

“I do not ask every child to shine in the same way. I create the conditions in which each child can discover how they shine.”

Why their partnership matters

The educational heart and the strategic architecture.

Jenny brings the educational vision, international perspective, special education expertise, and profound understanding of children. Martin brings the organizational leadership, business judgment, financial stewardship, and strategic discipline to help that vision endure. Together, they are building more than a preschool. They are creating a thoughtful, responsible, and lasting learning community where children are known, families are respected, teachers are supported, and every child is empowered to shine.

The Brain Ready Method™

Learning begins with readiness.

A consistent, whole day approach that supports the developing brain as a complete learning philosophy, not merely a single activity or occasional pause.

01

Safety first

Children are welcomed into an environment designed to feel secure, calm, and predictable.

02

Connection always

Warm, responsive relationships help every child feel seen, understood, and ready to participate.

03

Regulation throughout

Movement, music, sensory experiences, outdoor play, calm, nourishment, and connection are intentionally embedded across the day.

04

Learning with purpose

Once children are ready to engage, advanced and developmentally appropriate experiences help their strengths shine.

Regulation is intentionally embedded throughout the dayand responsively offered during moments of heightened need.

A calmer rhythm for children and teachers

Predictability made joyful.

Thoughtfully designed songs, visual cues, and familiar routines guide children through arrival, learning, cleanup, outdoor play, meals, rest, and dismissal.

Instead of relying on repeated directions, teachers preserve their voices and energy for what matters most: connection, observation, encouragement, and meaningful instruction.

  • Purposeful transition songs
  • Predictable daily rhythms
  • Smoother shifts between active and quiet learning
  • More time for genuine connection between teachers and children
Music carries the joyfrom one experience into the next.

Open hearts. Global minds.

A world of belonging.

Drawing on Jenny’s international experience, children explore cultures through stories, music, art, traditional clothing, games, celebrations, languages, and foods. These experiences teach children to meet differences with curiosity, kindness, and respect.

Many cultures.
One caring community.

Faith & values

Christ centered.
Wholeheartedly welcoming.

Gold Star Preschool is guided by love, compassion, honesty, forgiveness, service, gratitude, courage, and respect for the dignity of every person.

Through developmentally appropriate Bible stories, songs, conversations, and acts of kindness, children experience Christ’s love in practice. We do not promote one Christian denomination over another. Families of different traditions, cultures, religions, and beliefs are welcomed and treated with genuine respect.
